Lesson Plan - Substance Abuse

Goals/ Objectives:

· Students will demonstrate an understanding of substance abuse.
· Students will demonstrate the identifying factors that influence the use of drugs and alcohol.

Materials:

· Chalkboard and chalk
· Role play situations
· Paper and pencil.

Procedure:

· Ask the students what aspirin, deodorant, coffee, and wine have in common and write their
responses on the board.
· Discuss their answers in relation to drug and alcohol abuse.
· Discuss misuse and ask students to provide examples.
· Working in groups of four, students will role-play different situations involving substance
misuse and abuse. The teacher will assign different scenarios’ for each group.
· The students will describe the difference between drug abuse and misuse and share them
with the class. The students will write their own definition of the word “drugs” and discuss them
with the class.
· Have the students compare their knowledge of the initial response to the first question.

Evaluation:

· Students will be able to directly define and differentiate among substance abuse, and
misuse, in role-play situations.
· Listen to the answers and watch role-play situations to determine if students understand
these concepts.
· Discuss prevention and importance in regards to physical health.
